The best selling cholesterol lowering drug Lipitor (Atorvastatin) will be easier and cheaper to obtain starting today, drug maker Pfizer will have generics to contend with. Pfizer’s lipitor sales last year alone were 7.2 billion dollars.
Many people taking drugs such as lipitor cut pills in half or skip doses because the cost is so high. Co-payments for brand name drugs average $40 when generics average $10 creating a huge savings.
Unfortunately some people who exercise and maintain a healthy diet still have elevated LDL which is the bad cholesterol so drug lowering medications are unavoidable.
